Chapters 3 and 4

We looked at chapters 3 and 4 in Understanding Comics. McCloud has a knack for expressing concepts. He shows how the dimensions of a panel can alter our perception of time in that image. He considers manga and how the Japanese comics use panels within panels to switch from specific objects to the general scene. There's also a bit about motion streaks in manga, and while reading the example he uses, I hardly noticed. After reading so much manga, it has become background to me. I like that he didn't flip the examples to read left-to-right, but left the material as the authors made them.
